.xauthority No Such File or Directory Ubuntu Login Loop Passwd

1. Incurable login loop, aid please

   Turned my motorcar on today typed my countersign, hit enter and nothing happened kind of. It sort of hung for a few minutes so went back to the screen for choosing user.
   A solution I found to this problem was to enter tty1 and then move the .Xauthority file/directory to .Xauthority.bak, the problem is I get told

   Code:

   mv: cannot stat �.Xauthority�: No such file or directory.

   Something else unusual� I have to enter my abode partition passphrase twice before information technology unlocks to bring me to the login screen. Non considering I entered the wrong countersign, as I�ve double checked it, 4 times now.

   Could the two be related? How could the .Xauthority file/directory just vanish? I thought perchance the solution was dated and that .Xauthority might have a unlike name in ubuntu 20.04, except when I gpogled it, that doesn�t seem to be the case.

   Tin can someone help me figure out how to ready this ASAP delight?

   Some pertinent information. I simply remembered, I used fdupes to delete some duplicate files but simply in the desktop directory.
   The control was

   Lawmaking:

   fdupes -r -d -North home/user/Desktop

   , upon completion I shut the motorcar down, and it was the showtime power up after using fdupes that this occurred.
   Is that just uncanny timing, or could fdupes have deleted a file information technology shouldn�t take and thus creating this trouble?

   Perchance this tin can aid you I wrote a guide on a forum to this type of bug in by but I'm still utilize 14.04.

   When .xauthority is corrupt all seession is cleaved and simply you can enable X in graphic mode you only accept text mode, so the problem needs to exist solved on text style.

   My steps are :

   sudo service lightdm finish

   sudo service lightdm first

   If even so cant work the you need to do this :

   chown username:username ~/.Xauthority

   Other methods I have tried since making the mail service are:
   1) Create a new user, except the new user also ends upwards in login loop. Not sure of the the reason creating a new user account would take achieved if not looping.
   ii) Install lightdm, login loop persists in that location
   three)Ran apt full-upgrade, this produced a long list of (22) messages well-nigh possible missing firmware, I really don't know what would crusade that, I doubt it would have been fdupes.
   At the end of the upgrade it reported how many files and directories are installed, and it looks to exist accurate.

   Long story brusque. Opposite to my earlier comment, I was in fact using an incorrect passphrase , and rather than warn me like in times past,
   ecryptfs was bringing me to the login screen which atomic number 82 me to believe I was entering the correct passphrase...

   Commonly when an incorrect passphrase is used it would requite a warning to the effect of �ecryptfs unlock unsuccessful� until such time as you got it correct,
   and if yous entered the correct one it would say something to the upshot of �ecryptfs unlocked successfully�.

   At no point over the past few days has information technology given me either of these letters, which is most frustrating
